Your water level on your phone
No more lifting the lid or tapping the side of the tank. The HAWKi reads the water level with radar and sends it to the free Magnus app, so you can see what’s left before it runs low.
Water left
As a percentage and in litres.
Daily usage
See how much water you’re using.
Days to empty
Worked out from your recent usage.
Share the tank
Anyone you share it with can check it on their own phone.
For water tanks the app works out the litres from the depth, so the litres are most accurate on tanks with straight sides, like upright cylinders, square tanks and IBCs.

Bluetooth on its own, Wi-Fi with the Gateway
The HAWKi sends its readings to your phone over Bluetooth. If you want to check the tank when you’re away, add the Gateway and it sends the readings over Wi-Fi instead.
Bluetooth to your phone
Readings come through when your phone is in range of the tank, usually 50 m or more in the open.
Syncs in the background
The app picks up new readings when you’re nearby. How often depends on your phone and its settings.
Gateway for anywhere
Plugs in indoors and uploads readings on a schedule, so you can check from anywhere.
No Wi-Fi?
The Magnus SENTRi has its own SIM, so it doesn’t need Wi-Fi or a Gateway.
The Gateway is optional. You can add it with your HAWKi or buy it later.
Where it works
Water storage tanks
Cold water storage tanks at homes, farms and businesses, including the tanks we sell.
Rainwater and IBCs
Rainwater harvesting tanks, IBCs and straight sided water butts are an easy fit.
Field and stable tanks
Keep an eye on livestock and stable water without walking out to check it.
Oil and AdBlue too
It was made for heating oil tanks, so it does those as well. Both tanks show in the same app.

Know before it runs dry
Set a low level in the app and you’ll get a notification when the water drops below it. You’ll also be told about sudden drops, which is often the first sign of a leak, a burst pipe or a trough left running.
With the HAWKi on its own, alerts come through when your phone picks up a new reading. With the Gateway they come through on schedule, wherever you are.
Accurate to 5 mm
The HAWKi uses radar to measure the distance down to the water. It isn’t put off by condensation or temperature, and on a plastic tank it reads through the lid without touching the water.

Fit it yourself in about 5 minutes
There’s no wiring and you don’t need an engineer. Fit the HAWKi on top of the tank, wake it up with the magnet and pair it in the Magnus app, which takes you through each step. You need a flat spot on top about 9 cm across.

Plastic tanks
No drilling
Sticks to the top of the tank with the 3M pad and reads through the plastic, so nothing goes inside. The kit has the 3M pad, rubber seal, alcohol wipe, sandpaper and screws.
Metal tanks
1.5″ / 2″ BSP
Radar can’t see through metal, so this one screws into a spare 1.5 inch or 2 inch BSP opening on the tank with the multi-thread adaptor.
Do you need the Gateway?
If your tank is near the house and you’re there most days, the HAWKi on its own is all you need. Add the Gateway if you want to check the tank while you’re away, or want alerts to come through without your phone nearby.
HAWKi only
No subscription
Bluetooth to your phone
- Check the level when you’re near the tank
- Usage history and days to empty
- Low level alerts when your phone syncs
Good where the tank is close to the house and someone is usually about.
HAWKi + Gateway
1st year free
Wi-Fi to the Magnus app
- Check the level from anywhere
- Readings uploaded on a schedule
- Alerts while you’re away
Good for tanks in fields and outbuildings, rented properties and anyone who is away a lot. It needs Wi-Fi and a plug socket within range of the tank.
No Wi-Fi where the tank is, or want everything in one? The Magnus SENTRi has its own SIM, so it doesn’t need Wi-Fi, a Gateway or your phone nearby.
No subscription unless you add the Gateway
If you don’t renew the Gateway, it still works as a Bluetooth range extender up to 100 m from the Gateway, so your phone can pick up readings nearby. Subscription prices can change before renewal.
Worth checking first
Bluetooth range
Your phone, or the Gateway, needs to be in Bluetooth range of the tank. Walls, buildings and van bodies cut the range down.
For the Gateway
You need Wi-Fi and a plug socket for its USB power, within range of the HAWKi.
Your tank
Pick the plastic or metal version to match your tank. The litres are most accurate on straight sided tanks.
Liquids
Water, heating oil (kerosene), AdBlue and other liquids. Check with us for anything else.
Battery
One CR123A battery, already fitted and replaceable. Below 5°C it can run down quicker.
Not for petrol
It isn’t ATEX certified, so it can’t be used on petrol tanks or in explosive atmospheres.

Frequently asked questions
Does the HAWKi need Wi-Fi?
No. On its own the HAWKi sends readings to your phone over Bluetooth. Wi-Fi only comes into it if you add the Gateway.
Is there a subscription?
Not for the HAWKi on its own, and the Magnus app is free. If you add the Gateway, remote monitoring is free for the first year, then £20 a year.
Is it OK on a drinking water tank?
On a plastic tank it sticks to the outside on top and reads through the plastic, so nothing touches the water.
Will it tell me about a leak?
You’ll get an alert when the level drops suddenly. With the HAWKi on its own that comes through when your phone next picks up a reading. With the Gateway it comes through on schedule wherever you are.
Will it work on a round tank lying on its side?
It will read the depth fine, but on tanks that curve in or change shape the litres and percentage are only a rough guide. The low level alerts and usage history still work.
What happens if I don’t renew the Gateway?
It carries on as a Bluetooth range extender, up to 100 m from the Gateway, so your phone can still get readings nearby. You just can’t check from anywhere.
Can I use it on more than one tank?
Yes. You need one HAWKi per tank and they all show in the same app.
How long does the battery last?
About 2 to 3 years with hourly readings. It takes one CR123A battery, which comes fitted and can be replaced.
Can the HAWKi go on a petrol tank?
No. It isn’t ATEX certified, so it can’t be used on petrol tanks or in explosive atmospheres.
